Our
Story
It Started in 2005...
Although The Geek Speak Show's debut was in 2010 in the city of San Francisco, the idea that became the show actually began in 2005, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Henry held an upper management position at a Talk Radio network there, and he often found himself thinking about a radio show where instead of talking about sports, news of the day or politics, the topics and guests would be about Geek Culture. That radio network, however, didn't think there was an audience for "this geek stuff"....
Podcast? What is Podcast?
That was a question that many people, including broadcast professionals, were asking in 2009 and 2010 right before the show premiered. Hard to believe, but not everyone had a cell phone back then, which meant they didn't have access to podcasts. When Henry said he was leaving his looong career in radio to start a podcast, he got two reactions: "What's a podcast?" and "How do I listen to it?"
Because of those two questions, and with a recommendation from his soon-to-be former radio supervisors, he discovered and decided to launch this new show on live internet radio. Except for a lack of a transmitter and frequency, it would be no different than a radio Talk Show.
The Geek Speak Radio Show launched on Monday August 9, 2010 on TalkZone.com, with Henry as the main host. He also brought three other friends along: (John) Romo as the co-host; Angel Nevarez was the show's first female co-host, and Damien Minor served as the show producer and guest booker. The show was an instant hit with listeners, actors, comic book artists and other Geek Culture creators. The first season featured interviews with San Diego Comic-Con's David Glanzer, Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, Chloe Grace Moretz, Paul Dini, J.J. Abrams, Back To The Future producer Bob Gale and actors Claudia Wells and James Tolkan, and the first of many visits from then-Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, which began Henry's long friendship with Jeph, Marvel TV and eventually Marvel Studios. Obviously, The Geek Speak Show was a hit and the type of Talk show that Geek Culture enthusiasts needed.
